About Mindfulness Now

Although this course tends to you as a whole being with us shifting focus between the mind the body and the soul, it has it's roots in mindfulness.  This is where I have trained as a trauma informed teacher in important aspects such as mindful listening, holding space, the window of tolerance, guiding meditations and much more, skills which I can then carry across all the modalities we explore together.

Mindfulness Now is an accredited programme taught by The UK College of Mindfulness, who are approved with The British Psychological Society.

As a teacher of mindfulness, I am listed on the Mindfulness Teachers Association (the MTA) which is currently the UK’s largest professional body and register of Mindfulness Teachers.  I am therefore committed to upholding the yearly requirements as part of the organisation, which includes supervision, continued professional development and expanding my own practise.

Testimonials

Sophie (Mindfulness Sessions)

During, I felt like I was given space to speak about my experience, and I could tell you were actively listening to me – it felt like you were very present and interested in my experiencing of the meditations. You also checked in often to see if I understood or had any questions!
Overall, I’m so grateful for the experience. I think you are an incredibly warm and present teacher - everything made so much sense and flowed beautifully. I could tell that you care about this work. I’d recommend you in a heartbeat!

FAQ

What is Mindfulness? One definition is 'paying attention to the present moment, on purpose'. We can partake in mindful practises such as meditation, mindful listening, gently bringing attention to and investigating ‘negative’ thoughts, but mindfulness is also a way of life. We can be mindful in any moment we choose to. Through working together on the mindfulness now 6 week programme you will start to explore the different attitudes of mindfulness and become more accepting and therefore more peaceful in our day to day lives.

History of Mindfulness We will cover this more in one of our sessions, mindfulness has been practised for thousands of years all over the world. The type of mindfulness we will be practising in this course was bought over to the West in 1979 by Jon Kabat Zinn, primary as a tool to assist with chronic pain and stress symptoms.

What is MBSR & MBCT? MBSR – (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) was the technique developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn. The word stress in this case comes from the Sanskrit word ‘dukkha’ which means suffering. It was originally taught to groups of people who were suffering with physical and psychological conditions. It can be particularly helpful for people suffering with chronic pain. There is plenty of research to support its effectiveness in reducing stress, anxiety and other health conditions. MBCT – (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) used the basis and grounding of MBSR but places an emphasis on thoughts and negative thought patterns. As the name suggests, some methods from CBT – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy are incorporated. It has been particularly helpful in treating people with depression and specifically with relapse prevention. Mindfulness Now uses key aspects from both the above programmes with an adaptable approach.

How long are the sessions? We will allocate between 60-90 minutes per session. The reduced/free courses which I am initially offering will enable us to work together and decide what length of session is best. Your feedback on this will be most welcome.

How will the sessions look? We will be following the Mindfulness Now Programme (which is commonly offered in 8 week blocks) in a 6 week format. The structure is recommended as follows: Week 1 - Waking Up Week 2 - Awareness in our bodies Week 3 - Choosing how you react Week 4 - Being with what is difficult Week 5 - Looking after myself Week 6 - The power of compassion. (We may include a mindful tea ceremony in our last session together. I will send you everything you need for this.) There is always room for change and adaption to meet the clients needs best. If there is an area which needs more attention we will focus on that. The outline is a suggestion, and a thought out balanced programme, however if there is any aspect you would prefer to leave out, or talk more about, that is of course absolutely welcomed. It’s important for you to feel safe and you have complete control and autonomy over what you partake in. Everything you bring will be held and celebrated and I invite you to express your needs wherever you can.

Do you only offer 6 week courses? At the moment yes, however if you would be interested in a one off 1-1 session so you can decide if signing up for the course is right for you, please let me know. The exchange will be £55 per one hour session and can be fully tailored to your desires/needs.

I have more questions.. Please send me an email with any other questions you have hello@soulofgold.co.uk and I will get in touch and we can have a chat to answer your queries and see if this course is right for you. It will be an informal chat and there is zero pressure.

I want to sign up! If I still have spaces, please fill out the form here to apply for one of the free or low cost courses I am offering. Otherwise, if these are already taken please send me an email to hello@soulofgold.co.uk with the following information: Name, Email, Phone number, which course you are interested in, what has called you to sign up, a little about your journey and what you would like to gain from the course. I will then get in touch with my availability and we can book a suitable weekly time slot for our sessions together.

How it works After we have decided on our time slot and date of first session I will send you a contact, and invoice to secure your place. Then I will forward a pre session form which has just a few question for you to write on and bring to our first session. There will be home practise set weekly, which may be personalised meditation recordings, writing/journaling.

Do I have to be religious or Spiritual to take this course? In a word, no! People have been practising forms of mindfulness for thousands of years. A lot of religions include (or included) elements of mindfulness but it can be said that Buddhism has the most emphasis on mindfulness of all the religions. It can now be taught completely separate from Buddhism, or any religion but the traditions taught in Buddhism can certainly be related to our mindfulness practise of today. There are many people now in the western world who practise mindfulness, either as part of religion, or not.
